Community College Needs

by MPBrock

I'm so glad to see this conversation beginning and I fully support the idea of integrating focused conversations around community colleges and their unique needs in developing and scaling quality online learning programs. As you know, Sloan-C surveys consistently identify that community colleges are carrying the majority of online enrollments in the nation. It would be very interesting to analyze the Sloan-C conference participation and identify the percentage of attendees that are from CCs vs. 4-year institutions. In general, I'd imaging CCs have smaller budgets for conference travel which is a barrier in participating in Sloan-C. Further, CCs are bound to open access for everyone. This creates a very diversified student population with significant challenges including learning disabilities, language barriers, and economic challenges/access issues.

I think CC faculty, admin and staff could learn a lot from each other in a national dialogue at Sloan-C.
